Collaborative zine
Date
August to December 2025
Roles
Illustrator
Writer
Part of the graphic design team
In year 2, I partook in a fashion publishing module, where we were tasked to create a cohesive zine as a class. We could choose whether we wanted to be in the editorial or graphic design department, where I chose the latter.
As a whole, our theme was inanimate objects that held a deep significance for us. The cohesiveness seen in each zine can be seen through the execution of the front and back cover designs, the fonts and the sizing chosen for it.
I loved that I had a team to build on each other's ideas and also give feedback from a different point of view. It taught me that the key to ego-free collaborations is not about being right, but about doing what is best for the project.
My chosen medium for illustrations is crayons, as I wanted to create a child-like mood, as my zine is about growing up with my grandmother and her passing down a precious item from my childhood.
I did face issues and learnt new skills, like learning how to curve my text around the jade bracelet illustration, where I learnt how to use type on path, and how to create multiple art boards in one file on Adobe Illustrator.
